Read Raw Ltd
Promoting Creative Writing in Scotland
About Read Raw
Take four writers, sprinkle with poetry and prose, add some beer and stir well. Then retire to a safe distance and watch them rise. This is the recipe of Read Raw Ltd’s success.
Read Raw is what we would like to call a writers’ collective, and our sole aim is to promote creative writing in Scotland. To this end we set up the website to offer both a source of information on Markets and Competitions etc and provide an outlet for poets and writers and indeed anything else that may help the development of Creative Writing.
There are four directors (instigators?) of Read Raw. Maureen Blake, Ian Hunter, G W Colkitto and Wullie Purcell. Together or sometimes unaccompanied they wander the writing prairie to various venues reading and forging links with other groups and organisations, spreading the word that writing, in any form is a good thing and should be encouraged. In between times they indulge in a bit of writing themselves. More about them later
To assist in achieving this end we have created Read Raw Press to provide an outlet in print for aspiring authors and poets. In the pipeline at the moment is an anthology of horror stories and three poetry collections.
Who are these people?
Maureen Blake
Maureen, aka Mo, Blake, lived in London and then in Dublin, but returned home to Scotland as she always knew she would. When not writing her novel or being ensconced in research into the Spanish Civil War and World War II, Mo is also a prolific writer and performer of poetry and short fiction. Sometimes she can be found reading Tarot Cards, casting spells, murdering defenceless plants, drinking demure glasses of red wine, and she won’t shy away from a dirty big pint of Guinness either.
Ian Hunter

Ian, seen here with Laura Watson, the cover artist, at the launch of Lipstick Lass, is a prolific writer having had three children’s books published as well as a host of other pieces ranging from downright horror to tongue in cheek jibes at religion and the Royal Family
G W Colkitto
G W Colkitto is the Nome de Plume of a slightly mad one time Inspector of Taxes, and ex Chartered Accountant. He has always been in love with words and in particular the Soliloquy from Hamlet. Someone once said to him that it was foolish to try writing as it had all been done better before. He replied ' that may be true but you forget the enjoyment and if no-one tried we would have stopped with Shakespeare '
Wullie Purcell

Wullie, ex- fireman and IT guy is a writer of both prose and poetry and doesn’t tie himself to any one discipline, writing anything that takes his fancy from short stories, children’s stories, poetry and IOU’s. He has finished a humorous fantasy novel set variously in Heaven, Hell and Earth that he has been working on since just after creation. He has had a collection of poetry published entitled "Looking Through Glasses". He works at keeping the website going in between his scribblings and his lifetime search for the perfect real ale. In this photograph he is trying hard to look interesting.
