Promoting Creative Writing in Scotland

About Read Raw

Read Raw Ltd’s purpose is to promote creative writing in Scotland.  To this end, it’s four directors, Mo Blake, Ian Hunter, G.W. Colkitto and Wullie Purcell set up the website to offer both a source of information on markets and competitions and to provide an outlet for poets and writers.

Who are these people?

Mo Blake

Mo is the manager of Books in the West.  Her poetry has been published in various collections, not least the Scotia Bar Finalists Anthology 2009, Ink Sweat & Tears and in the Earth Love magazine.  Mo’s poetry collection is due out any time soon.  Last year she performed poetry in Glasgow, Paisley, Perth and Dumfries.  She also writes short stories and is working on an historical thriller which she hopes to complete before this year is out.

Ian Hunter

Ian, seen here with Laura Watson, the cover artist, at the launch of Lipstick Lass, is a prolific writer having had three children’s books published as well as a host of other pieces ranging from downright horror to tongue in cheek jibes at religion and the Royal Family

G W Colkitto

G W Colkitto, the man in black, is an ex-inspector of taxes, ex chartered account. He has had short stories and poetry published in magazines and anthologies. He has published two poetry collections and a poetry pamphlet. He was winner of the Scottish Writers’ Centre 2011 short story competition and has an ebook published by www.mxpublishing.co.uk. He performs regularly in the Glasgow area. His ambition is to be older and taller but accepts he is unlikely to achieve both.

Wullie Purcell

Wullie is an ex- fireman and IT manager.  He writes short stories, children’s stories and poetry.  He has finished a humorous fantasy novel set variously in Heaven, Hell and Earth that he has been working on since just after creation. In addition to having numerous short stories and poems published in various places  Wullie has had a collection of poetry entitled "Looking Through Glasses".  He works at keeping the Read Raw website going in between his scribblings and his lifetime search for the perfect real ale.
