Scottish Writers' Centre
Open Writing Competition 2012
The Scottish Writers' Centre invites submissions of short stories and poetry inspired by the theme of ‘Lighthouses’ for the Scottish Writers' Centre 2012 CompetitionShowcase
Short Stories will be judged by Chris Nolan and Poetry by Liz Niven. Details of prizes will be announced via the Scottish Writers’ Centre website before the closing date.
The best six submissions will be showcased at: Glasgow's ‘Aye Write’ Festival on 17th March 2012 where writers’ winning entries will be read. Winning entries will also be published onthe Scottish Writers' Centre Website.
Deadline: 12pm on Friday 27th January 2012
Competition Rules
This competition is open to all writers living in Scotland. Stories and Poems should be on the theme of ‘Lighthouses’ and should be accompanied by an entry form available by emailing to info@scottishwriterscentre.org.uk
- There is a fee of £3.00 per entry. One free entry is allowed for those who have purchased an SWC Membership.
- Please return entries to the Scottish Writers’ Centre by the closing date with an entry form and appropriate fee for each entry (Cheque or postal order made out to, Scottish Writers’ Centre) by post to SWC Open Writing Competition, Scottish Writers' Centre, CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3JD.
- Closing date for receipt of entries - noon on Friday 27th January 2012
- Entries must be original and not previously published or accepted for publication.
- Entrants must be aged 16 or over.
- Maximum of 2000 words for each story. Maximum of 40 lines for each poem.
- The title is not included in the word count or line count.
- Entries must be in English or Scots, typed, single sided, with pages numbered and securely fastened with a staple. Each entry must be on a new sheet. We hope to be able to invite entries in Gaelic at a future date.
- Short stories should be typed in double spacing and the word count should appear in brackets after the title on the first page. Poetry is preferred in single line spacing.
- We can’t return entries so please keep a copy.
- Please be sure to use correct postage when sending printed submissions.
- No corrections can be made to your work after submission.
- The decision of the judges is final.
The work of six winners will be showcased at the ‘Aye Write’ Festival in Glasgow on 17th March 2012 and posted on the Scottish Writers’ Centre website for a minimum of six months.
